World Cup Night Games: June 14
Ivory Coast vs Ecuador and Sweden vs Tunisia — full breakdowns, player duels, and where to watch in the 559

Tonight's
Night Games
Two high-stakes group stage matchups going tonight. Here's everything you need to know before kickoff.
Ecuador enters as the slight favorite on the strength of a 19-match unbeaten streak and one of the most disciplined defenses in the tournament — they conceded just six goals across their 19-game unbeaten streak. But Ivory Coast is no pushover: they return to the World Cup after a 12-year absence having beaten France 2-1 in a pre-tournament friendly, and they kept clean sheets in 10 straight qualifying matches. Most analysts are calling a low-scoring draw, but Ivory Coast's wing play could be the difference.
What to watch: Caicedo's job is to cut off supply lines to Diallo before Ivory Coast's wingers can get into dangerous positions. If Diallo can get behind Ecuador's back line, Ivory Coast can steal this. If Caicedo shuts him down, Ecuador holds.
Also watch: Ecuador captain Enner Valencia (49 international goals) who is listed as a minor doubt but would be their biggest offensive weapon if healthy. On the Ivory Coast side, 19-year-old Yan Diomande — Bundesliga Rookie of the Year — is another wing threat who could explode on the world stage tonight.
Sweden enters this one as the favorite, powered by two of the most dangerous strikers in European football right now. But don't sleep on Tunisia — they topped their CAF qualifying group by 13 points, winning nine of ten matches. Their Achilles heel is scoring: they haven't found the net in their last three matches, including a brutal 5-0 friendly loss to Belgium right before the tournament. Sweden's shaky qualifying form (only one point in five matches before the playoffs) means nothing is guaranteed. Expect a close game, with Sweden holding the edge in firepower.
What to watch: Skhiri's ability to marshal Tunisia's midfield and limit the service to Gyökeres will determine this game. Sweden also has Alexander Isak (Liverpool) alongside Gyökeres — two world-class strikers is a serious problem for any defense. Tunisia simply has to score though, or they're in trouble in Group F.
Also watch: Alexander Isak (Liverpool) — Sweden's second striker who's equally dangerous and arguably more technically gifted. If Tunisia focuses too much on Gyökeres, Isak will punish them. For Tunisia, keep an eye on Ben Slimane who needs to create opportunities in attack for a team desperately short on goals.
